Code Words in the LS to Keep You Safe

Safewords are more prevalent in the BDSM lifestyle, but what about for swingers? Surely there is a time when you want to indicate to your partner that you’re a NO for what’s being offered without offending the person or couple who are offering. Maybe it’s dancing and flirting with a couple on the dance floor, and your partner is like ‘Yes? You’re interested in this person to play with tonight?” You may not want to say out loud, “No, I’m not interested” in front of them and ruin the mood or offend them. So what can you do?

Some couples have code words worked out for just such a scenario. One couple I spoke to said they use fruits as an indicator. She doesn’t like lime, so might say something like ‘I taste lime in this drink’, or ‘with a lime twist’, to indicate she’s just not feeling it with this person. With a quick comment (or even a quick whispered word “Lime” in his ear) they have communicated clearly and without offending the other couple.

Likewise, when she is interested and would like to take it further, she uses ‘strawberry’ as their positive identifier. “Boy, it would be great to have some strawberries right now!” or “I smell strawberries!” and he knows he can help move the action from the dance floor to the playroom.

Using code words between you and your partner could help take some of the awkwardness out of communicating in front of others. It’s hard to say “Honey, while these people seem perfectly nice, I’m just not interested in them.” but dropping a code word that no one but your partner knows and understand is harmless and won’t hurt anyone’s feelings.

In the kink community, they use stoplight colors to indicate a willingness to participate. Green means GO, obviously. One could use this too while at a swing club “Oh look at that couple over there. I’m GREEN with envy over her shoes!”

Yellow usually indicates something is just not quite right and is often used as an indicator that play needs to slow down. Again, in swinging this could be good to extract yourselves from play that may have already started but you no longer are feeling it, and want to stop or take a break.

And Red is an All Stop safeword. In BDSM it is expected that if one says Red as a safeword, all play halts. Both or all participants can use a safeword, not just the bottom or sub. Likewise, in the swinging lifestyle, Red can be used to indicate to your partner that ‘you gotta get me out of here now!’ or ‘I am NOT into this and I am done.’

Of course, you and your partner should have this all worked out before you arrive at a club or party, so you are on the same page and you’re not throwing out code words that they aren’t picking up on it. Use words that aren’t likely to be used at a party or event, but aren’t so out of the blue (like saying ‘Broccoli’) that the other person or couple are left scratching their heads. Also, avoid using ‘boner killer’ words or phrases, like ‘your mother called today’, or it could kill the mood entirely.

This trick isn’t for everyone obviously. But if you think it might work for you, talk to your partner about it and come up with some safe or code words that just the two of you use. If nothing else, it’ll bring you closer together as honest and open communication skills are a cornerstone for the swinging lifestyle.

Good luck and have fun!

O Zone Amenities – What’s Included in Admission

Banner that says "All you need to know about membership".

Membership is a requirement by law in Ontario for a club such as The O Zone, with ‘on-premise’ playrooms. Many clubs require than a membership fee be paid annually, but not at The O Zone. Membership is included in the first visit and never expires. But what do you get for your membership? There’s quite a bit you wouldn’t expect.

We supply condoms and water-based lube. Condoms are usually found in a dish on the back bar by the entrance to the back areas. If you have a favorite kind of condom, prefer non-latex or condoms of a certain size, you are encouraged to bring your own. A large bottle of lubricant can be found in each of the two playrooms, and small cups nearby that you can squirt some into, rather than taking the entire bottle to your play area, leaving it for others as well. If you bring your own lube, please leave the silicone or hybrid lube at home, as it stains our linens, raising operating costs. There is hand sanitizer in the playrooms and the washrooms, for your convenience.

In the back washrooms, you’ll find mouthwash and cups so you’ll always have fresh breath for your next encounter. There is a large, communal shower with several showerheads situated centrally between the two playrooms, with towels available free of charge. We ask that you take only what you need, and place soiled towels in the laundry baskets provided. You’ll find towels stacked neatly in both playrooms, in the locker room and by the shower, as well as in the hall by the washrooms.

There is a generous bank of lockers in each of the playrooms, as well as the locker room by the shower. Locks are located on the back bar by the condom bowl. Each lock is numbered and comes with a key with a coordinating number. A lock can go on ANY locker, not just the number written on the lock. (these numbers are for our staff, so we can marry the correct key to its corresponding lock after the party is over). We ask that when you are finished with it, lock the key into the lock and place it on the back bar for our staff to tidy later.

Every Friday and Saturday party has a theme, and the club is often decorated in theme. Think of all the time and money spent decorating for many of these events. Halloween is one of the biggest decorating endeavors and lasts the entire month. Other themes include Valentine’s, New Year’s Eve, Mardi Pardi, toga, Stoplight party, and the list goes on. Many of the clubs don’t decorate, or very minimally. At The O Zone, we want to create a full experience, and the decor goes a long way to provide that.

The O Zone also serves a light snack buffet every evening that includes chips and snacks, chicken fingers and fries, and a host of other delectable snacks to keep your energy up. On busy nights, the buffet is constantly refreshed so no matter when you need it, there’s a little something to keep you going.

There are often prizes and giveaways as well. Sometimes prizes for best costumes or sexiest outfit. Sometimes the first to arrive get an incentive gift, like masks for New Year’s Eve or pasties and naughty surprises on other nights. We give out hundreds and hundreds of strands of beads at Mardi Pardi to help instigate the flashing of tantalizing flesh.

So you see, your membership and price of admission covers a lot of extras that aren’t included at other clubs. We want it to be as inclusive as possible, so our guests can concentrate on the task at hand: enjoying a hedonistic night out!
